01 — It Started With a Love of Creating
I've always loved creating things, but I think what I've loved even more is seeing something I've made make somebody else smile.
I first discovered candle making around eight years ago, and it quickly became more than just something I enjoyed. I found something I was genuinely good at — something that gave me the freedom to experiment, be creative and turn an idea in my head into something somebody could actually hold, use and love.
After taking a little break from candle making, I found myself drawn back to it.
Only this time, I came back with more experience, more ideas and a much bigger vision for what I wanted to create.
02 — Coming Back, But Doing It Differently
When I decided to start making again, I knew I didn't want Billie Rae to feel like just another candle company.
I wanted personality. Gorgeous fragrances. Beautiful products. Fun names. Colour. Little unexpected details. And collections that felt exciting from the moment you saw them.
I wanted the freedom to step outside what candle making is supposed to look like and simply create things that I would genuinely be excited to receive myself.
So much of what we do is created in-house, with our own little Billie Rae touches added along the way. We're still experimenting, learning and coming up with new ideas all the time.
And that's probably my favourite part.
03 — The Joy of Giving
Some of the inspiration behind Billie Rae actually started long before the business did.
When my children were growing up, and whenever I was buying for family or special occasions, I loved making up gift bags filled with lots of different little presents.
There was something about watching somebody reach inside, pull out one surprise… and then realise there was another one waiting underneath.
And another.
I loved seeing their faces.
Looking back now, I think that's exactly where my love for creating our Billie Rae gift sets came from.
From birthdays and thank-yous to Mother's Day, Easter, Christmas and those just because moments, I want our gift collections to recreate that same feeling — lots of beautiful things to discover, thoughtfully put together and genuinely exciting to open.
Because sometimes the best part of a present isn't just what's inside.
It's the feeling you get opening it.
04 — More Than You Expected
From the beginning, one thing has mattered enormously to us: value shouldn't mean compromising on quality.
We want Billie Rae to look beautiful, smell incredible and feel special — while still being something you can treat yourself, or somebody you love, to without feeling guilty about it.
That's especially important to us with our gift collections, Candle Club and subscription boxes.
We want that moment when somebody opens their box and thinks:
“Wait… I get ALL of this?”
That's the reaction we're aiming for.
Generous products, gorgeous fragrances, beautiful presentation and those extra little touches that turn opening a parcel into an experience.
A little bit of luxury — without needing the luxury price tag.

05 — And This Is Only the Beginning
This might be my creative dream, but Billie Rae isn't being built by me alone.
My husband and I are building it together. Our family believe in what we're trying to create. And slowly, something else rather lovely is happening too:
Other people are starting to believe in it.
Every follow, message, comment, order, recommendation and person who comes back to see what we're creating next makes this little idea feel a little bigger.
And we do have big dreams.
One day, we'd love a Billie Rae HQ — a busy space filled with products being made, orders being packed, new fragrances being tested and a brilliant team working alongside us.
We're not there yet.
And that's part of our story.
We're building Billie Rae right now. We're learning, creating, changing things, having new ideas and figuring things out as we go.
Every big brand has a beginning.
